Martyrs & Legends was born from my curiosity about the story behind the story. As a young Catholic girl, I was given an illustrated book of saints, mostly in the throes of gruesome deaths, which both horrified and intrigued me. As I got older, I wondered; what were their real stories? What were the ordinary truths behind what became their legends? Were they miracles, or the result of hundreds of re-tellings, like the “telephone game”? What does it take to become a legend? Can we all become legends? Are we legends already?
